Title Research: Murder by Death

Welcome back guys, today on Art of the Titles, I will be looking at the movie Murder by Death’s opening scene. 

What titles are displayed during the opening sequence?

The movie shows multiple examples of titles. To be exact it shows the studio, the original story producer, the original playwriter, the movie title, the actors, the costume designer, the film editor, the musician, the production designer, the supervising film editor, the director of photography, the associate producer, the writer, the producer, and the director.


What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?

The main images which are shown are of someone opening an old locked up chest, paper creations of the characters in the film, and zooming in from a house to a creepy window


How does the film establish a feeling of the genre from the opening sequence?

The opening sequence sets the tone for its genre by putting together various elements. The suspenseful music creates an immediate sense of tension, while the use of dark lighting contributes to an atmosphere of mystery and suspicion. The introduction of eccentric characters during the opening credits adds a layer of humor to the suspense. Also the film combines visuals to help make the atmosphere more engaging.
